Moon Township, PA – The Wagner College women's soccer team opened up Northeast Conference (NEC) action with a quick goal one-minute into the contest but a pair of late first half scores from Robert Morris proved to be the difference as the Seahawks dropped the conference opener, 2-1, to the Colonials on Friday afternoon.
 
With the loss, the Green & White fall to 1-8-0 and 0-1 in league play while Robert Morris improves to 3-8 and 1-0 in the conference.
 
Forty-six seconds into the contest, Wagner fired the opening salvo in the match as junior captain Maria Nunez received the cross from freshman Luisa Barone and blasted a shot that found the back-of-the-net to put the visitors ahead, 1-0.

For Nunez, it marked her second goal of the season and fifth of her Seahawk career. Barone notched her first collegiate helper this afternoon.
 
Robert Morris answered back with the tying score in the seventh minute as Kristina Kelley was able to put one past senior goalkeeper, Katie Viscardi, to the far post after Bailey Farabaugh was able to find Kelly at the edge of the box.
 
Wagner had a chance in the 26' as sophomore Mya Donnelly was able to create space but her shot attempt sailed high over the goal. The Colonials broke the 1-1 stalemate in the 30' as Jane Schleicher, the leading NEC-goal scorer, netted her circuit leading ninth goal of the season after firing a shot to the far left post from inside the 18.
 
RMU nearly took a two-goal advantage as the home team was awarded a penalty shot in the 35'. Schleicher stepped up and booted the ball to the left but Viscardi correctly guessed on her attempt and was able to keep the deficit at one.

The Colonials held Wagner to just one shot in the second half, as sophomore midfielder, Julia Fitzsimmons, attempt was blocked by a RMU defender.
 
Viscardi recorded a match-high ten saves, one shy of her career-high 11, set back against the very same Colonial squad back on October 16, 2015. Her counterpart, Sydney Bruckner, didn't record a save in today's match.
 
Wagner will return home to Hameline Field for a pair of a NEC-matches. The Seahawks welcome Bryant on September 28 at 7:00 p.m. before squaring off against Central Connecticut on Sunday, September 30 at 2:00 p.m. Both matches will be streamed live on NEC Front Row.
