SFU Completes Sweep of their Hawaiian Road Trip
Kaneohe, HI - Seven different players contributed with points on four Simon Fraser University goals as the Clan defeated the University of Hawaii-Hilo 4-0 in Kaneohe, HI. The win improves SFU's record to 11-0 on the season (5-0 in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference) while the University of Hawaii-Hilo drops to 2-6-1 on the year.
SFU was in control of this afternoon's game from start to finish - outshooting UHH by a tally of 23-7 while getting more shots on goal, a total of 11-6.
The Clan's opening goal of the game came off the foot of John Hodnett (WolverHampton, England) in the 13th minute of action. Hodnett took a breakway pass from Justin Wallace (Kamloops, BC) that went over the UHH goalkeeper, leaving Hodnett with a clear shot to the goal.
In the 34th minute, SFU added to their lead when Josh Bennett (Hamilton, ON) found an open Roman Doutkevich (Kiev, Ukraine) with a pass. Doutkevich deposited a shot in the left side of the goal to make it 2-0 for the Clan.
Two minutes later, Bennett added another goal to make it 3-0 for SFU heading into the half. Jovan Blagojavic (Coquitlam, BC) assisted on the Clan's third goal.
The offensive outburst subsided in the second half but SFU did add one more goal in the 60th minute when Michael Winter (Vancouver, BC) scored to make it 4-0, which would hold up as the final score.
Hide Ozawa (Victoria, BC) got the start in net for SFU and made two saves in just over 81 minutes of action. He was releived in the 82nd minute by JD Blakely (Saskatoon, SK) who was forced to make three saves in eight minutes of play.
Paul Elias played the entire game for the University of Hawaii-Hilo, making seven saves.
SFU will now head home after a successful trip to Hawaii. Their next game will not be for 10 days when they return to action at Terry Fox Field, hosting the University of Northwest Nazarene on Thursday, October 20. Game time is 7:30 PM.
