LOWELL, Mass. – The Northeastern women’s soccer team (3-1-0) matched its highest single-game scoring output in program history as six different players found the back of the net in a 6-1 victory at UMass Lowell on Sunday.

 

Freshmen Hannah Rosenblatt and Nicole Gorman each scored their first collegiate goals, while Breeana Koemans (goal, assist), Carly Wilhelm (goal, assist) and Taylor Caparo (two assists) each recorded multi-point performances. Mackenzie Dowd and Hannah Lopiccolo also scored for the Huskies, who outshot the Riverhawks (0-2-0), 18-6, to earn their third straight win. 

 

Goal Recaps

• Northeastern scored just 4:37 into the match on a free kick from the right corner by Koemans. After Cappuzzo drew a foul and a set piece for the Huskies, Koemans stepped up and drilled a curling ball that fluttered over the head of the UMass Lowell keeper from a difficult angle.

• The Huskies doubled the lead through Rosenblatt’s first collegiate goal in the 14th minute. Cappuzzo again initiated the goal with a run down the left flank, before cutting the ball inside to the freshman in the box. Rosenblatt’s initial shot attempt was blocked, but the Lincoln, Mass., native stayed with the play and finished on the rebound to make it 2-0.

• Fifteen minutes later, NU was at it again as Cappuzzo beat a defender to the left endline, before sliding a feed to Gorman for a cool, first-time finish from eight yards out. 

• UMass Lowell pulled a goal back on a penalty kick in the 31st minute. After a Northeastern handball in the box, Rachel Morrier stepped up and snuck a shot by Huskies’ keeper Jill Quinn, who nearly kept it out with a dive to her left.

• The Huskies responded two minutes after the halftime interval, when Koemans sent in a corner kick for Dowd to direct home in heavy traffic at the 47-minute mark. 

• Lopiccolo finished a beautiful, flowing movement for a fifth goal in the 75th minute. Carly Wilhelm started the play with a cross from the right wing to Taylor Caparo in the center of the box. Caparo then touched a feed to a cutting Lopiccolo, who drilled a shot into the bottom left corner.

• Two minutes later, the ball was in the back of the net once again as Caparo slid a pass to Wilhelm for a powerful finish into the lower right corner from the top of the box. 

 

Stats of the Night

• Northeastern tied a program record with its highest single-game scoring output. The Huskies previously scored six goals in a 6-1 win over Iona on Sept. 10, 2003.

• Koemans and Wilhelm each recorded their first collegiate one-goal, one-assist performances.

• Caparo notched her first collegiate two-assist game.

• Northeastern has scored 12 goals in its first four games; eight different players have netted at least one goal.

• The Huskies will try for their fourth straight win on Thursday when they welcome crosstown rival Boston University to Parsons Field. Kickoff is scheduled for 6 p.m.
