Six Rangers Named to All-RMAC Teams
Cahill Named RMAC Defensive POY, Akindele FOY, Belzer Coach of the Year; Six Named to All-RMAC Teams
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.: Regis University women's soccer placed six on the 2012 All-RMAC Teams; senior Marissa Davis, junior Alison Cahill and freshman Sade Akindele were named to the first team.
Cahill was named Defenseive Player of the Year and head coach JB Belzer was named Coach of the Year for the second consecutive year, while Akindele was named Freshman of the Year.
With the 2012 regular season closed, Belzer has amassed a 243-101-20 overall record in his 16 seasons. This season, the coach has led the Rangers to their second consecutive RMAC regular season championship, finishing in the RMAC with a 10-2-2 record and 12-4-2 overall record.
Defender Cahill was named RMAC Defensive Player of the Year and All-RMAC First Team in 2011 as well as this year. The native of Boise, Idaho has started in all 18 contests throughout the 2012 season. She has been a key asset to the Ranger defense, helping the team to a 2.01 goals against average.
First team selection and Freshman of the Year, Akindele has had a breakout freshman season after redshirting during 2011. The forward's 12 goals and 30 points lead the Rangers, and she has also assisted on six goals. The native of Thornton, Colo. has maintained a .706 shot on goal percentage after putting 26 of her 37 shots on goal.
Midfielder Davis has been a key enforcer of setting the pace of Ranger matches throughout the 2012 season. While achieving First Team honors, the native of Golden, Colo. has netted nine goals while assisted on seven others for 25 points on the season. She has scored three game-winning goals for the Rangers and in last weekend's match against Fort Lewis, Davis sent the tying goal from 55 yards out into the back of the net for the tie to win the RMAC Championship.
Also, junior Meghan Stuart and freshman Sidny Otto were named to the All-RMAC Second Team, while sophomore Kendal Kagawa was named to the Third Team.
Stuart has scored seven goals and leads the Rangers with eight assists in 2012. The native of Arvada, Colo. has netted two game-winning goals and maintains a .490 shot on goal percentage after putting 24 of her 49 shots on goal.
Otto has had a breakout 2012 freshman campaign after netting 10 goals and gathering five assists for 25 points. A Highlands Ranch, Colo. native, Otto leads the team with four game-winning goals and has amassed a .574 shot on goal percentage.
Kagawa, a midfielder out of Honolulu, Hawaii has started all 18 contests this season. She has scored one goal while assisting on three others for five points this season and was instrumental in setting up opportunities for the Rangers to score from midfield.
As the 2012 RMAC Champions, the Rangers will host the RMAC Tournament on Friday, November 2 at 12:00 PM. Sunday will be hosted by the highest remaining seed after Friday's matches.
