Skyhawks ranked No. 1 in final NSCAA poll
KANSAS CITY, Kan. — The Fort Lewis College men’s soccer team (24-1-0 overall) was ranked No. 1 in final NCAA Division II poll of the season, the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) and Continental Tire announced on Tuesday.
The Skyhawks beat Lynn (Fla.) 3-2 in overtime last Saturday in the NCAA-II championship game, securing FLC’s third national title since 2005. Fort Lewis previously won NCAA crowns in 2005 and 2009, and finished as national runners-up in 1999 and 2006.
Fort Lewis was unranked in the 2011 preseason poll, but climbed into the national rankings after the first week of the season and remained in the Top 25 ever since.
Two RMAC teams appeared in the final poll of the season: No. 1 Fort Lewis and No. 23 Metro State. Regis and Colorado Mines also received votes.
