Smith's Four-Point Match Propels Broncs
EDINBURG – Freshman Allyson Smith recorded one goal and two assists to lead the University of Texas-Pan American Broncs women’s soccer team to a 3-0 win over the Chicago State University Cougars on Friday in its first-ever match at the UTPA Soccer and Track & Field Complex.
The Broncs (8-2-4, 2-1-1 WAC) got on the board at 40:54, when Smith sent a long lead pass ahead to freshman Aimie Inthoulay who buried her sixth goal of the season to make it 1-0.
The Broncs outshot the Cougars (1-10-1, 0-2-1 WAC) 12-0 in the first half, including 9-0 on goal.
Sixteen and a half minutes into the second half, Smith scored her second goal of the season on a deflection from freshman Andreya Barrera to make it 2-0.
Seven minutes later, Smith sent a pass ahead to freshman Zinnia Hannig who went one-on-one with goalkeeper Taylor Conroy (0-1-0) and beat her with the right foot for her first-career goal.
Freshman goalkeeper Aubrie Coley (5-2-4) picked up the win by playing the first 73:40. Freshman Harlingen South alum Erica Gonzalez made two saves the rest of the way to finish up the shutout.
Overall, the Broncs outshot the Cougars 21-2, including 15-2 on goal.
The Broncs are back in action on Sunday at 1 p.m. when they host Kansas City at the UTPA Soccer and Track & Field Complex. Gates open at 12.
