SMU Falls 4-0 To No. 10 UCF
DALLAS (SMU) – The SMU women's soccer team fell to No. 10 UCF, 4-0, Sunday afternoon at Westcott Field.
With the loss, SMU fell to 5-5-3 overall and 0-3-1 in The American. No. 10 UCF improved to 9-1-1 overall, with a 5-0-1 mark in league play.
The Knights took a 1-0 lead into halftime following a goal by Morgan Ferrara in the 20th minute.
In the 55th minute, SMU's Katharine Herron nearly scored the equalizer off a Haley Thompson corner kick. Thompson played a corner into the 6-yard box where Herron got a head on it. The perfectly-struck header caught the inside of the near-post and bounced out, before being cleared by the UCF defense.
In the 60th minute, Hailey Bishop netted a cross from Jessica Cooley, but the strike was waved off and a foul call was awarded in UCF's favor.
Tenth-ranked UCF would managed to score three more in the final 25 minutes of play to secure the victory.
Up next, SMU heads to the east coast for matches at Connecticut and Temple. Thursday night, SMU and Connecticut will clash at 7 p.m. ET/6 CT. The match can be seen on The American Digital Network. Following the tilt in Storrs, Conn., the Mustangs head to Philadelphia to square off against Temple Sunday afternoon.
