DALLAS (SMU) – The [rv] SMU women's soccer team fell to Baylor, 4-1, at Westcott Field Sunday night.

The Mustangs dropped to 4-2-2, while the Bears improved to 6-1-1.

Vanessa Valadez opened scoring in the 9th minute to give SMU an early 1-0 lead. After beating a Baylor defender, freshman Hannah Allred served a pass across the 18 yard box, where a waiting Valadez punched it in from 12-yards out. The goal was her fifth of the season and 23rd of her career.

Baylor found the equalizer in the 10th minute of play, as Camryn Wendlandt managed to net a weak header off a Jackie Crowther cross.

Down 2-1 at halftime, the SMU offensive attack opened the second half with three threatening opportunities in the first 15 minutes. In the 56th minute, Claire Oates headed a Haley Thompson corner kick to the back post, but a diving Jennifer Wandt managed the save. A minute later, Allred nearly found the SMU equalizer, but Wandt just managed to get a hand on it to extinguish the threat. In the 59th minute, Allred fired a shot from the far, top corner of the 18-yard box, but the line-drive shot hit the crossbar.

With SMU defenders drawn up to help offensive attack, Baylor took advantage and scored two more goals late to seal the win.

Valadez led the Mustangs in shooting, firing four shots with three on frame. Allred managed a second-best three shots, two of which were on goal.
