Soccer Announces Summer Camp Schedule
HOUSTON - The University of Houston soccer program is already gearing up for a summer full of camps. The summer camp schedule will kick off June 3 and runs through July 26 with numerous camps for soccer stars of all ages.
Camp season will begin with the first of three sessions of ‘Beat The Heat.’ This camp will be held on the indoor turf inside the Athletics/Alumni Center, and is designed for girls and boys, ages 8-18, of all abilities, who want to experience a fun soccer environment all while learning to improve their game. The first session will begin on June 3 and conclude June 6, followed by the second and third sessions on June 17-21 and July 15-19, respectively.
Along with first session of Beat The Heat, the Cougars will host three, one-hour Goalkeeper Camps. The curriculum for the young keepers will concentrate on technique and tactical situations that they will face in competition. During their training session they will be challenged with topics, such as shot stopping, handling, the importance of footwork and distribution.
The camp schedule will continue June 7-11 with the first session of the Residential Camp. The Residential Camp is a four-day, overnight camp for girls ages 11-18. It is comprised of our most advanced and challenging curriculum and training sessions. They will receive instructions on technical and tactical topics, such as dribbling, passing under pressure, principles of attacking and defending, and movement off the ball. Session two and three will be co-ed and be held on June 12-16 and July 22-26.
Coincide with the session one of the Residential Camp, the Cougars will host a girls only College Identification Residential Camp. This camp is designed specifically for players entering high school or that are in high school wanting to experience what it is like to train or play at the collegiate level. At the camp, campers will be walked through the recruiting process and given an understanding on what to except as a college student-athlete. On the field, campers will experience training sessions similar to those on a college campus. All training sessions will be ran separately than session one of the Residential Camp.
The Mini Kickers Overnight Camp will kick off with a three-day, girls only session, June 7-9. This camp is great first overnight experience for campers ages 8-11, who are looking for a challenge but still want to have fun. Mini Kickers will be ran simultaneously with the Residential and College Identification Camps. At this camp, the training sessions are geared towards the young athletes and will be comprised of small-sided games and lots of fun. Along with the Residential and College Identification campers, the mini kickers will reside in the dorms on campus and dine in the cafeteria.
For those athletes who are unable to make it to the weekday camps, the Cougars are offering two two-day camps, which will be held on Saturday and Sunday. The first session will take place on June 22-23, followed by the second session on July 20-21. At these camps, girls and boys, ages 8-18, of all abilities will learn skills and will be given ideas on how to practice on their own. Each camper will be able to incorporate their learned skills into small-sided games each day.
All campers will be given the opportunity to work directly with experienced staff that will provide personalized instruction in all facets of the game with special emphasis on proper technique under pressure.
