RICHMOND, Ky. -- Morehead State freshman McKenzie Ward scored her first career goal Sunday at Eastern Kentucky, but Colonel junior Nikki Donnelly netted the equalizer with less than two minutes in regulation and the game-winner in the 96th minute as the Eagles fell 2-1 in overtime at the EKU soccer field.

The Colonels improved to 5-4-1 overall and 1-0 in the Ohio Valley Conference, while the Eagles slid to 0-8-1 and 0-1 in the league.

Ward’s goal came in the 68th minute after she beat her defender one on one and slipped the ball by the outstretched arms of the EKU keeper inside the far post.

MSU led the Colonels 3-1 in shots on goal in the first half, but was unable to hold on for the victory. The Eagles also had a 6-4 edge in corner kicks.

“You have to give credit to EKU,” Head Coach Warren Lipka said. “We didn’t manage the game well at the end of regulation, and they capitalized on our mistakes.”

Freshman goalkeeper Elizabeth Floyd finished with five saves, while freshman Kimberly Golden had a pair of shots.
