Southern Utah signs ten for class of 2015
SUU soccer and Head Coach Becky Hogan have announced their 2015 signing class on National Signing Day and it includes talented athletes from many of the western states. Overall, there are 10 players in the class including one from Nevada, two from California, one from Arizona, one from Colorado and five from Utah.
"This signing class of 2015 continues the strong tradition we've established here at SUU over the last three years of bringing in the top talent from the western region," Hogan said, "I'm excited to welcome this group into the Thunderbird soccer family."
The four signees from Utah include Paige Robins, a forward from Salem Hills, and Megan Elliott, a midfielder from Riverton. Coach Hogan on Elliott, "She is a player that has a really high soccer IQ and she plays with such nuance that many people may not appreciate the impact she has on a game." Coach Hogan on Robins, "Paige is a very exciting prospect. With just a couple years under her belt as a highly competitive club player I think Paige has the potential to become one of the premiere forwards in our conference.
Also from Utah are Kenzie Bell, a center back from Kaysville, and Devri Hartle, a forward from Highland. Bell played for Forza FC and Hartle played for La Roca Premier on the club level. Coach Hogan on Bell, "The physical presence Kenzie brings to the game is indisputable, but what people may over look is her passing ability and composure on the ball." Coach Hogan on Hartle, "Devri is another player with championship experience and that winners mentality is something that can't be coached. She is confident and has exceptional skills to compliment her ability."
Rounding out the signees from Utah is TJ Thompson, a defender from American Fork, Utah. Coach Hogan on Thompson, "TJ has a great attitude and is going to give 100 percent every second of every practice and game. It is always a bonus to add players like her to a squad because she elevates the level of play by working incredibly hard at all times."
Alanna Carbonaro is a goalkeeper who comes to SUU from Scottsdale, Ariz. Coach Hogan on Carbonaro, "Alanna is a product of a great club culture. She has terrific command of the field and is a very astute player who really understands the game."
Emilee Bohls plays both the defender and midfield positions. She comes to SUU from Las Vegas, Nevada through the FC Warriors club team. Coach Hogan on Bohls, "She is a tremendous person with an attitude that is infectious and when combined with her soccer ability I think the sky is the limit with what this player can do."
The Thunderbirds welcome Meghan DeHerrera to the SUU soccer team. DeHerrera is from Arvada, Colo. and played for the Westminster AFC club team. Coach Hogan on DeHerrera, "Meghan adds a dimension to our team that we currently lack. Her ability to play a perfectly textured ball in behind defensive lines makes her a lethal weapon."
SUU soccer received two commitments from California today, those being Summer Soriano and Saki Wantabe. Soriano is a defender from Arroyo Grande, Calif. and Wantabe is a midfielder from Los Angelos, Calif. Coach Hogan on Soriano, "Her ability on the ball is exceptional and she runs off the ball equally well. I believe that Summer is a player that can impact our team right from day one." Coach Hogan on Wantabe, "Saki is a product of a fantastic club environment where she has been coached at a high level and has played with big time players. You could fire a rocket at her and she would trap it inches from her feet. Without exaggeration her ability on the ball is second to none."
Coach Hogan finished talking about the 2015 signing class by saying, "In addition to being exceptional soccer players each and every one of these young women are incredible people who will enrich the strong team culture that we have going right now. I couldn't be happier with this group and can't wait for August to get here."
