NORTH MANCHESTER, IND. – A double-overtime draw with regional power Wilmington College of Ohio concluded Manchester University’s outing in its Raven-Spartan Classic Sept. 8.

Coach Andy Stout’s Spartans, going to 1-2-1, rebounded from a 2-0 loss to National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics’ in-state rival Goshen Sept. 7 by blanking a Quakers’ team that had posted 10 goals the afternoon prior against Anderson.

Sophomore goalkeeper Emily Willmann (Montpelier, Ind.) continued to impress. Willmann’s eight saves came in the midst of a 25-2 shots advantage for Wilmington. Manchester’s offense did make a strong push at the opposing defense in the second half and each overtime, but the Quakers’ defense upped its current scoreless streak to 470 minutes. Freshman forward Brandy Crouse (Cleves, Ohio) and sophomore midfielder Diane McAfee (Fort Wayne, Ind.) each took Spartan shot attempts.

In the loss to Goshen, Willmann ended up with eight saves, while sophomore midfielder Breanna McLane (Westville, Ind.) led the offense with two shot attempts. Goshen used a successful penalty kick conversion off a handball call in the box in front of the Spartans’ net and goal separated by just two minutes midway through the first half to get the win.

The Black and Gold’s current three-match home stand resumes Tuesday, Sept. 11, when Huntington College visits Spartan Field for a 4 p.m. start.
