Spartans select captains
NORTH MANCHESTER, IND. – Manchester University men's soccer coach Corey Brueggeman has named sophomore defender Matt Roop (West Lafayette, Ind.), senior defender/midfielder/forward Tod Oram (Crown Point, Ind.) and senior goalkeeper Brady Forman (Hastings, Mich.) as team captains for the 2017 season.
Roop, who appeared in 10 matches with nine starts, is one of the squad's top defensive returners. Oram, who's played in 46 career matches with 37 starts, is coming off a sparkling 2016 in which he scored three goals and dished out four assists to be one of only four players to register 10-or-more points. Forman, a mainstay in the Black and Gold net since he arrived in North Manchester, sports better than 200 career saves, has been part of six clean sheets and has a career 1.77 goals-against average in 46 appearances of which 45 were starts.
The Spartans picked fifth on the 2017 HCAC coaches' poll, begin the season with matches at Illinois Tech Friday, Sept. 1, and Sunday, Sept. 3.
