St. Cloud State opens weekend with 2-1 win
The St. Cloud State University soccer team scored a 2-1 victory at Northern State University on Saturday, Sept. 20 in Aberdeen, S.D. The victory moves SCSU's record to 2-3, 1-1 NSIC, while Northern State falls to 2-3, 1-1 NSIC in 2014.
The Huskies opened the game's scoring at 9:19 with a goal by Taige Thoreson that was assisted by teammate Gabby Fleck. NSU rallied with a goal by Anna Bondy at 65:34 to make it 1-1.
SCSU iced the victory at the 80:22 of the game with the game winning goal by Kara Espinosa. The assists on the goal were chalked up by Thoreson.
In the contest, SCSU outshot the Wolves 16-14 as Huskies' goalie Brittnay Plombon had two saves in the game. Goalie Brittney Tietz had five saves in the game for NSU. Of note, Thoreson and Ally Herod each posted three shots in the game for the Huskies.
SCSU will complete its road trip on Sept. 21 with an NSIC match at Minnesota State, Moorhead at 1 p.m.
"Today was an important leaning experience for our team," said SCSU coach Gretta Arvesen, who earned his first career NSIC win for the Huskies at NSU. "We connected as a team and our efforts today make us better tomorrow."
