NORTHFIELD, Minn. — St. Olaf wasted little time getting on the scoreboard Saturday, and the Oles never took their foot off the gas, scoring five times in handing the Saint Mary's University men's soccer team a 5-0 Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference setback.

The Oles, who had scored just two goals in their last three games — including one in a 1-1 conference-opening tie against Gustavus on Wednesday — got on the board in the game's third minute, as David Rosenthal beat SMU goalkeeper Dontae Gillespie (Naperville, Ill.) for his first goal of the season.

St. Olaf would add another goal on a Nick Lund tally in the 31st minute, as the Oles took a 2-0 advantage into the halftime break.

The Oles' quick-striking offense was on display again early in the second half, as Rosenthal scored twice in a two-minute span to push the St. Olaf lead to 4-0. Kevin Krip closed out the scoring, netting his first of the season in the game's final minute.

Gillespie finished with seven saves in goal for the Cardinals, while St. Olaf goalkeeper Harry Ullmann recorded a three-save shutout.

The Cardinals (0-2-0 MIAC, 2-4-0 overall) step out of conference play on Wednesday, when they travel to Decorah, Iowa, for a 5 p.m. nonconference game against Luther.
