Stags’ Second Half Surge Too Much for Saints
LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. – Fairfield struck for three second half scores to defeat Siena Women’s Soccer 3-0 in the Saints’ 2013 home finale. Ashley Small scored twice in a three-minute span late in the match to put it away for the Stags.
After an evenly contested first half in which both teams attempted four shots apiece, Fairfield (11-5-1, 7-1-1) controlled the final stanza. The Stags out-shot the Saints (8-8-1, 4-4-1) 11-2 in the second half and garnered the vast majority of opportunities.
A Brenna Brown cross from in close deflected off Taylor Booth and a Siena defender to open the scoring for Fairfield in the 68th minute. In the 81st minute Brown crossed to Small who volleyed in her first of two goals.
Small added an insurance tally in the 84th minute for Fairfield which has outscored its opponents 17-1 during a five-match winning streak.
Booth was active in goal making six saves for the Saints, while Taylor D’Alfonso paced the offense attempting four of Siena’s six targets.
The Saints conclude regular season action Saturday with a 1 p.m. kickoff at Manhattan.
