Stony Brook edged by Villanova, 1-0
October 7, 2014
Stony Brook, N.Y. - Stony Brook gave a spirited effort in front of 400 fans celebrating "International Night" at LaValle Stadium Tuesday night, but were derailed by a 56th minute goal in a 1-0 loss.
Anatol Reaction
"I am disappointed with the result. I thought it was a pretty even game against a good opponent but we didn't do enough in the second half to create enough chances. If we want to be successful and win games we have to find ways to create more chances," said Anatol.
Goal Recap
- Hayden Harr scored his fourth goal of the year in the 56th minute, which would stand as the game's lone marker. Sophomore Jason Orban (Manorville, N.Y.) made the initial save to shutdown the Wildcats scoring bid but John Jlopleh recovered the ball from his back and found Harr who spun and fired into an open goal.
Notes
- Villanova sported a 13-4 advantage in shots but not many of their attempts found their way through to Orban. Shots on goal were only 3-2 in favor of the Wildcats.
- Corner kicks were even at 4-4.
- Junior Martin Giordano (Weston, Fla.) and sophomore Jorge Torres (Miami, Fla) registered Stony Brook's shots on goal.
- Orban, making his first start of the year, made two saves.
- Senior Keith McKenna (Great River, N.Y.) opposed his brother Eric, a midfielder for the Wildcats, for the first time in his career. The two schools met last year but the younger Eric didn't see any action.
