Swift Second-Half Strikes Aid Men’s Soccer In 2-1 Decision
PUEBLO – Junior Richard Garvey and senior Tannor Randle registered back-to-back second-half scores within a 2:38 span as Colorado School of Mines men's soccer collected a 2-1 win against Colorado State-Pueblo Sunday afternoon in Pueblo.
Garvey ended the scoreless deadlock with team-leading third goal of the season – tied for third-most in the RMAC – at 49:58 on a right corner feed by redshirt freshman Ryan Blarr, and Randle followed at 52:36 with a free kick tally from 30 yards.
CSU-Pueblo (1-5, 0-2 RMAC) answered in the 71st minute to evade the shutout as Connor Marth found Ryan Cass for his first of 2014.
The Orediggers were outshot 19-15, but held a plus-six margin in shots on goal with a season-high 11 attempts directed to net.
Garvey and Randle shared the game-high with three on-target tries; junior Ryan Leach directed two, while Blarr and juniors Joe Haines and Chayce Monizeach recorded one.
Sophomore keeper Collin Hall improved to 3-2 with four saves in the 90:00 minutes of play.
Mines (3-2, 1-1 RMAC) meets local rival and NSCAA No. 8 Regis in a rare midweek bout at 4 p.m. on Wednesday at Regis Match Pitch in Denver.
