Tall named America East Player of the Week
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – After providing the heroics to lead his team to a crucial 1-0 win at Stony Brook on Sunday, University of Hartford junior Omar Tall was rewarded with his first-ever America East Player of the Year honor on Monday morning. The award is the second for a Hawk men’s soccer player this season as David MacKinnon took home the accolade in September.
Scoring his first career goal in the final minute of the first half, Tall found the back of the net on a restart from the far sideline, using a pass from redshirt freshman Shane Dineen to knock-in the game-winner. With two games remaining in the regular season, the Dakar, Senegal native has accumulated a career-best six points, adding a team-high four assists to his marker.
Sunday’s league win improved the Hawks’ record to 2-2-1 in league contests. With eight points and a pair of matches remaining in the regular season, Hartford vaulted into a three-way tie with Vermont and Albany for third place.
The Hawks defeated Vermont, 3-2, earlier this month and are slated to play at Albany on Saturday evening in New York’s capital city.
The 2013 campaign has been filled with several milestones for the Hartford men’s soccer program. The squad has accumulated the most wins (10) in a decade and with nine shutouts, it has tied the Division I school record in clean sheets.
