TDS Division I Men's Top 25: Sept. 12
The opening of conference play in the ACC and the Big Ten was the highlight of the third week of the NCAA Division I season. There was a top five clash in the ACC with North Carolina taking on Clemson. There was also a battle of the titans in the Big Ten with Maryland on the road against Indiana.
The opening night of conference play was a fitting showcase for the state of the college game, as some of the brightest talents were on display. North Carolina, the preseason favorite, looks to be living up to the hype as the Tar Heels survived a rowdy crowd in a 1-0 win over Clemson. The Tar Heels remain in the top spot in the TopDrawerSoccer Men’s Top 25 for another week.
Fellow ACC program Notre Dame jumps up to No. 2. The Irish have been tested through the early part of the season with a challenging schedule, but the team continues to succeed in any situation. The Irish are 5-0 on the campaign and Brandon Aubrey is an early favorite to win the Player of the Year.
Syracuse also improved to 5-0 on the season with a 2-0 win over NC State. The Orange have only conceded three goals through five games, as Miles Robinson leads a tough Syracuse defense into a busy upcoming two weeks.
Maryland and Indiana battled to a 1-1 draw in the Big Ten opener between two of the best college soccer programs. Maryland takes up the No. 4 spot in this week’s Top 25 while Indiana slots in at No. 5.
