TDS Division I Top 25 Rankings: February 22
While winter weather across much of the country either forced games indoors or to be postponed/canceled, the spring season continued to build momentum.
For the first time during the current school year, Big Ten men's and women's programs were in action, including several teams ranked in the Top 25.
On the men's side of the rankings, the opening of Big Ten action saw two ranked programs do battle, as Penn State held off Maryland by a 3-2 score. The Terps nearly overturned a 3-0 deficit in State College, coming up just short in a 3-2 win. Indiana solidified its status as a contender, as Victor Bezerra's brace guided them to a 3-0 opening weekend win.
Pac-12 action also featured conference games 0n the men's side. Oregon State surged up the rankings with a 2-1 win at Washington. No. 4 Stanford held serve against local foes California.
DIVISION I TOP 25 RANKINGS UPDATE: Men's | Women's
The biggest movers in the women's DI rankings saw USC jump into the Top 25. After their first game of the season was canceled due to COVID concerns, the Women of Troy opened up on Monday with a wild 4-3 victory against BYU. No. 3 Stanford held their spot, though came within eight minutes of falling upset against Pepperdine on Friday. Trailing by a goal late in the second half, the Cardinal scored two late goals to win by a 2-1 score.
Over in the Big Ten, Rutgers defeated Penn State in Friday's opening conference matchup for both teams. Michigan drew its opening, a 1-1 visit to Ohio State.
