TDS Men’s Division I Top 25: Wild Playoffs
The start of the men’s NCAA Tournament was full of surprises. Last week’s No. 1 team Stanford did not last long in the postseason tournament. The Cardinal dropped its opener at home against UC Irvine in overtime. No. 3 Maryland suffered a similar fate with a 0-1 loss to UMBC in College Park on Sunday.
UCLA skates up to the No. 1 spot following the turmoil at the top of the rankings. The Bruins survived a scare against San Diego in the Second Round. Goalkeeper Earl Edwards made a tremendous double save early in overtime to keep the season alive for the Pac-12 powerhouse.
Notre Dame saunters into the second spot for this week. The Irish also had a close battle in the NCAA Tournament against a lively Ohio State squad on Sunday. Syracuse moves into the No. 3 spot following its win over Penn State.
North Carolina makes the big jump to No. 4 this week. The Tar Heels are on a stellar run right now, which is perfect timing for the ACC outfit. UNC beat Charlotte on Sunday on the road to advance to the Sweet Sixteen.
Providence, following a 3-0 win over Dartmouth, rounds out the top five this week.
