TDS Men’s Team of the Week: Oct. 25
The men’s Division I season is rolling toward the final weeks of the regular season. With limited games left on the schedule, there is an added significance with each passing moment on the conference battles.
The past week saw a number of teams make a push for a better spot in the conference standings with crucial results. The individual performances from those games helped certain players secure spots in the TopDrawerSoccer Men’s Division I Team of the Week.
TDS Player of the Week: Alec Ferrell, Wake Forest
TDS Men’s Team of the Week (Oct. 17-23)
GK Alec Ferrell, Wake Forest - Ferrell made seven saves in Wake Forest’s 1-0 win over Boston College on Saturday. Seven saves matched the career high for the redshirt-senior goalkeeper. Ferrell was also in net for Wake Forest’s 1-0 win over South Carolina. He made three saves in that game.
M Juan Samayoa, Cal State Northridge(m) - Scored a goal and added two assists in the Matadors big win over UC Irvine last week. Samayoa was instrumental in the win as Northridge stayed at the top of the Big West South Division standings with only two games left in the regular season.
M Brandon Williamson, Duke - The freshman midfielder scored twice in Duke’s 2-1 upset of Notre Dame last week. Williamson scored his first goal in the first half with Duke trailing 1-0 at the time. He added his second late in double overtime as the Blue Devils snagged the win.
M Drew Skundrich, Stanford - The junior midfielder had a goal and an assist in Stanford’s 3-2 win over UCLA on Sunday night. Skundrich scored the opening goal of the game and then contributed the assist on the game-winner. He helped Stanford complete the sweep of the Bruins for the first time in the program’s history in Pac-12 play.
M Brandt Bronico, Charlotte - Bronico record his first hat trick last week. The senior midfielder scored three goals in Charlotte’s 5-0 win over UAB. Bronico scored the three goals on only four shots.
M Luka Prpa, Marquette - Prpa scored two goals in Marquette’s 4-1 win over Xavier last week. Prpa’s second strike held up as the game-winner. The freshman midfielder has eight goals this season and 22 points.
M Amar Sejdic, Maryland - Scored a goal and contributed an assist in Maryland’s 2-1 win over American last week. He followed that up with an assist against Hofstra on Friday. He also provided the delivery on the set piece for the other goal in that game as Sejdic was involved in all four of Maryland’s goals last week.
M Christopher Wingate, New Hampshire - The senior midfielder scored the game-winner against Massachusetts-Lowell last week in a crucial conference battle. Wingate scored on a penalty kick in the first half and the Wildcats held off the previously unbeaten UMass Lowell side.
F Adrian Nunez, North Florida - Nunez scored two goals in North Florida’s 3-2 win over over Florida Gulf Coast, which was the Osprey’s first win over a Top 25 team in the program’s history. Nunez also had an assist on the other goal on the day.
F Jake Freeman, Harvard - The senior forward had a goal and an assist in Harvard’s 3-2 win over Princeton in a crucial Ivy League clash last week. Freeman scored the equalizer and then assisted on the game-winner.
F Joe Saad, Saint Louis - Saad scored both goals in Saint Louis’ 2-1 win over Davidson. He followed up that performance with a goal and two assists in a 5-0 win over St. Bonaventure over the weekend. Saad’s massive week helped Saint Louis push the winning streak to six games.
