Temple Loses to SMU 2-1 in Overtime
AMBLER, Pa. – Temple men’s soccer fell to SMU 2-1 in overtime on Saturday afternoon at Ambler Sports Complex. The Owls fall to 2-8-2, 1-2-1 while SMU improves to 7-3-1, 3-0-1.
SMU scored first in the 44th minute of the first half. Damian Rosales took a cross and tapped it past goalkeeper Dan Scheck.
Temple evened up the game in the 55th minute. Olli Tynkkynen took a cross from right side of the field from Jared Martinelli and scored from 10 feet out. Willie Chalfant also assisted on Tynkkynen’s third goal of the season. Both teams traded chances before time ran out in regulation.
SMU had three shots in overtime and converted on their last shot. Bryce Clark scored from 25 yards out to end the game.
SMU outshot Temple 21-4 in the game.
Scheck made 12 saves in the game, tying a career high set on Dec. 3 in a win over Saint Joseph’s.
The Owls will play their final nonconference game at Yale next Tuesday at 7:00 p.m.
