Ten college Homegrowns who need to sign now
Every year the college season ends, and every year college coaches hold their collective breath. You can almost see the collective question linger in the air over campuses all over the country.
Can I hold onto my MLS Homegrowns?
It’s an increasingly touchy question as more and more MLS teams look to tap into a Homegrown pipeline that’s been severely underutilized for most over the years. But thanks to the success of clubs like FC Dallas and the New York Red Bulls, more and more teams are beginning to see the light. Which in turn puts an increasing amount of pressure on the college coaches who recruited them.
And I might not be helping the cause, because today I’m making the case for 10 Homegrowns on college rosters who need to be pros yesterday.
Some of these guys are seniors, so they’re already out the door anyway. But many are not, and the one thread they have in common is that each is good enough to earn a contract and get a chance to at least prove their mettle in camp. Anything beyond that is up to them.
Here’s a look at those 10, who they are and why they deserve that contract.
