Terriers Improve to 5-0-0 in NEC
The St. Francis Brooklyn Terriers remained perfect in the Northeast Conference as they blanked the visiting Central Connecticut State Blue Devils, 2-0, on Friday evening at Brooklyn Bridge Park. The Terriers, who are 8-1-1 over their last 10 contests, are now 5-0-0 in the league and 9-4-2 overall. The Red & Blue can clinch the No. 1 seed and home field in the upcoming conference tournament with a victory at Bryant on October 30th.
The visitors had the better of the play at the start of the contest as they were able to create a couple of early scoring opportunities, however, the Terriers dominated the remainder of the match. St. Francis Brooklyn fired 18 shots, including ten that were on goal. The Blue Devils took five shots and only two were on target.
St. Francis Brooklyn, who has now outscored their NEC opponents by a combined total of 11-0, finally broke through in the 52nd minute as senior midfielder Fabian Suele headed in his first goal of the season. Sophomore midfielder Jules Paillard lifted a gorgeous free kick into the box and senior defender Collyns Laokandi headed the ball to Suele. Suele then put the ball past Blue Devils' keeper Nick Velleca, who was out of position on the play.
The hosts continued to force the issue and scored an insurance marker when sophomore forward Leonard Kirschner (5 shots) put in another header off a second assist from Laokandi in the 81st minute.
Roberto Bazzichetto was asked to make just two saves as he recorded the win in goal for St. Francis Brooklyn. Velleca stopped eight shots by the Terriers.
The Terriers will return home for senior day on November 6th when they take on LIU Brooklyn. The NEC Tournament begins on Friday, November 11th.
