Stony Brook, N.Y. - Taylor Thames, who has a combined seven years of Div. I soccer experience as a player and coach, has been named assistant coach for Stony Brook men's soccer, head coach Ryan Anatol announced Tuesday.
"We are very excited about the addition of Taylor to our staff," Anatol said. "Taylor has very good experience both as a coach and a player. He will have a positive impact in the development of our student-athletes and the growth of our program at Stony Brook University."
Thames arrives at Stony Brook after three seasons as an assistant coach at Mount St. Mary's in Emmitsburg, Md. He was a lead recruiter for the Mountaineers and was responsible for team conditioning, game film analysis, goalkeeper training and academic support. Six Mountaineers earned All-Northeast Conference (NEC) honors while Thames coached at Mount St. Mary's, including 2011 NEC Rookie of the Year Zoncher Dennis.
Thames also has head coaching experience at the youth level, serving as head coach of the Maryland State Youth Soccer Association Under-17 team last season, where he recruited high level players through club contacts, planned and executed training sessions and oversaw travel training and game management. Prior to last season, he was the association's director of goalkeeping for one year.
For the last two years, Thames also has been the director of goalkeeping and the Under-15 team head coach for F.C. Frederick, where he composed team goals, was responsible for team management and training and worked with all male and female goalkeepers within the program.
Thames was a four-year letter winner at Delaware from 2005-08, recording 10 clean sheets as a goalkeeper. In the classroom, he was a two-time member of Delaware's Dean's List and graduated in 2009 with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science.
