The Pitt Crew swats Hornets 3-0 at Sleep Inn
ORANGEBURG, SC – Junior Yasmin Bunter scored one goal and assisted on another as Francis Marion University blanked Alabama State University 3-0, Friday evening (Aug. 31) in the opening match of the Sleep Inn Women’s Soccer Classic hosted by South Carolina State University.
The Patriots climb above the .500 mark at 2-1-1 and will face the University of Maine on Sunday morning at 11 a.m. on the second day of the classic. It was also the first shutout victory for first-year FMU head coach Frank Pitt. Alabama State drops to 2-2-0.
Freshman goalkeeper Taylor O’Berry registered three saves en route to her first career shutout. FMU outshot the Lady Hornets 20-6 and led 4-1 in corner kicks.
Sophomore forward Elizabeth Asare put Francis Marion up 1-0 in the ninth minute with her third goal of 2012. Bunter and sophomore Dominique Evans both assisted on the score.
Bunter doubled the advantage to 2-0 at the 31:16 mark when she converted a penalty kick.
Senior Kelly Kady concluded the scoring with a goal in the 62nd minute. Freshman Arianna Pierner and Evans both recorded assists on the final tally.
Asare led FMU with six shots, while Bunter attempted four.
