Three goal scorers carry FMU past UNG
DAHLONEGA, GA – Sophomores Jeremy Bonyaa and Shahin Hemat and junior Gino Lucarelli each tallied goals to lift Francis Marion University to a 3-0 blanking of the University of North Georgia, Saturday night (Oct. 4) in Peach Belt Conference men’s soccer action.
Francis Marion improves to 6-1-2 overall and 1-1-2 in the conference, while the Nighthawks fall to 1-7-1 and 0-2-0.
FMU completes its three-match road swing with a win and two ties. The Patriots return home to host Erskine College on Wednesday night at 7 p.m.
The Patriots outshot North Georgia 22-18 and led 10-4 in corner kicks. Sophomore goalkeeper Mike Warn recorded six saves en route to his fifth clean sheet of the season and his sixth shutout in 11 career appearances.
Bonyaa tallied his first career goal thanks to an assist from Hemat in the 10th minute. Hemat took a shot that was saved by North Georgia goalkeeper Victor Ohlin, but the ball deflected to Bonyaa.
Lucarelli doubled the margin to 2-0 at the 24:29 mark. He beat Ohlin to the ball at the top of the box and then chipped a shot into the open net for his first career score.
Hemat completed the scoring in the second half, at 53:26, on a long-range 30-yard blast to the far post. Hemat led FMU with six shots, four of which were on frame.
Ohlin finish with three saves in 45 minutes of work, while his replacement Diego Casillas also made three stops.
