Thunder Stung by Hornets in Overtime
ANGOLA, Ind. - The Trine University women’s soccer team fell in a heartbreaker as they lost 1-0 to MIAA opponent Kalamazoo College in overtime. The Thunder are now 3-6 on the year and 1-4 in the conference.
The opening half saw the Hornets take charge offensively as they outshot Trine 7-2. However, in the second half it was the Thunder who held a 7-5 shot advantage.
The lone goal of the game came at 5:01 of the first overtime period as Jackie Short scored her sixth goal of the season to send Kalamazoo home with the win.
Leading the way for the Thunder were sophomore Kristen Elliot (Wooster, Ohio/Wooster) and Freshmen Morgan Baldwin (Amanda, Ohio/Amanda-Clearcreek) and Melissa Smiles (Davisburg, Mich./Holly) with two shots each.
Senior Jen Wall (New Haven, Ind./New Haven) made nine saves on the afternoon including five in the first half.
Trine will look to rebound as they take the week off before hosting defending conference champion Alma College during homecoming on October 1 at noon.
