Tindell Named Senior CLASS Candidate
OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – The record-setting and exceptional career of FGCU women's soccer senior Tabby Tindell continued, earning recognition as one of the nation's most well-rounded individuals. Tindell was named one of 30 candidates for the Senior CLASS Award, the national organization announced over the weekend.
A total of 60 men's and women's soccer players were selected Friday for the 2016 Senior CLASS Award. To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be classified as a NCAA Division I senior and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence: community, classroom, character and competition.
An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School ®, the Senior CLASS Award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities.
Tindell (Ocala, Fla./Trinity Catholic HS) is among a list of 60 candidates who each have produced an impressive resume both on and off the field over their respective careers. Among the 60 candidates, 29 have a GPA of 3.5 or higher, 12 are All-Americans and 12 were named to the MAC Hermann Preseason Watch List.
From the current list of the 30 candidates, 10 finalists will be selected and placed on the official ballot, which will be distributed nationwide to media, coaches, and fans. From there, one male and female candidate will earn the Senior CLASS Award, announced at the College Cup in December.
Tindell becomes the first FGCU women's soccer player to become a candidate and has represented FGCU in each of the four categories since her arrival on campus.
A Health Science major, Tindell entered her final year with a 3.32 GPA, earning Dean's List recognition three times, Athletic Director's Honor Roll five times and was invited to the Spring 2015 Academic Honors Luncheon. Additionally, Tindell has been honored by the ASUN Conference, earning All-Academic honors twice.
The Ocala-native has also become a well-known face in Southwest Florida, volunteering at numerous events during her career. The senior forward has spent time at Metcalfe Elementary, Pine Manor, Eagle Revolution and Night at the Nest. Tindell has also assisted with game day promotions, the Naples Fire Clinic and the Hunger Walk.
On the field, Tindell has helped FGCU to an impressive four-year mark of 53-17-7 overall and an unblemished 23-0-4 record in ASUN play. Over the previous three seasons, the program has reached new heights including playing host to Auburn in the First Round of the NCAA Tournament in 2014 and winning its first NCAA Tournament game last season with a 2-1 triumph over USF.
Thus far in 2016, Tindell has not only etched her name in FGCU history but also ASUN history. The forward entered the year with FGCU records in goals scored and points, but with 12 goals and seven assists in 2016, Tindell is now the ASUN's all-time leading goal scorer, the conference's all-time leader in points, and most recently became FGCU's record-holder for most assists. For her career, Tindell has produced 64 goals and assisted on 29 more for 157 points. Perhaps more impressive is the timing of her goals as 29 have been game-winners, the most in ASUN history and the nation's active leader in that category.
