TJC Soccer Takes Shutout Wins
Samuel Hosseini scored on a penalty kick in the first overtime to give No. 3 Tyler Junior College a 1-0 win over Lon Morris in a Region XIV soccer semifinal Friday night at Pat Hartley Field.
The Apaches (15-1-2) overwhelmed Lon Morris on the stat sheet — 21-1 in shots on goal and 25-0 in corner kicks.
The Lon Morris goalkeepers were credited with 17 saves and the Apaches hit the post four times. A hand ball in the 18-yard box led to the penalty kick.
TJC coach Steve Clements said his team executed well, but just couldn’t score.
“There was probably some frustration (after regulation),” Clements said. “I think everybody always felt like the goal would come. The team played well, we just couldn’t score.”
San Jacinto won 2-1 over Coastal Bend in the other regional semifinal and will face TJC at 2 p.m. today in the final at Pat Hartley Field.
The regional champion will travel to Mississippi next weekend to play the Region 23 winner in the district final.
