Tony McCall; NSCAA Regional Coach of the Year
SALISBURY, Md.: Head men's soccer coach Tony McCall was named NSCAA South Central Region Coach of the Year after leading the Rangers to their first NCAA Sweet Sixteen appearance all-time.
McCall tops the charts as the Rangers all-time most winningest coach with an overall record of 53-15-10 in his four years at Regis. He boasts a .744 win percentage overall and a .786 win percentage in the RMAC conference (40-8-8 RMAC). His 53 wins are third most in school history.
The Rangers finished 17-2-1 overall and 14-0-0 in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference play in the 2012 season. Their undefeated regular season was the first in Regis men's soccer history and second all-time in the RMAC, a feat which led Regis to RMAC Conference Champion status.
McCall coached three NSCAA All-Americans and had two named to the Daktronics All-America Teams (1st, 3rd) this season. The Rangers earned six All-RMAC selections, including four first team and two second team picks. Senior Taylor Diem garnered RMAC Defensive Player of the Year honors while McCall was also named RMAC Coach of the Year.
His team stayed on the national rankings for 10 consecutive weeks after cracking the polls at the 19 spot and working their way up. McCall, originally from Northern Ireland, led Ranger men's soccer to their first national #1 ranking, a spot they held for three straight weeks. The #1 ranking was also the first for any sport in Regis history.
Along with these accomplishments, the Rangers topped the record books in ten separate team single-season categories. They advanced in points (173), points per game (8.65), goals (64), goals per game (3.2) and game-winning goals (17), and saw the most wins they have ever had at a single season with 17, among others.
McCall will now move on to the NSCAA National Coach of the Year Ballot, competing against seven other regions.
