Top 100 Freshmen rankings announced
Once again, young talent is playing a huge role at massive programs in Division I women's soccer.
Yujie Zhao (Florida State), Sophia Smith (Stanford), Alexa Spaanstra (Virginia) and Brianna Pinto (North Carolina) have all slotted into starting roles at their respective programs. All four compromise the top spots in the women's Top 100 Freshmen rankings, released for the first time for the 2018 campaign.
Zhao edges Smith for top spot, although the U.S. youth international has settled into a significant role for the Cardinal, and has scored six goals in her last eight games. Zhao pulls the strings and offers a goal threat for Florida State, which is enjoying a strong season to this point. Like Smith, Zhao played at the Under-20 World Cup earlier this year in France.
