Top men’s attacking, defending teams in DI
With the men’s Division I college season nearly a month old, meaningful statistics are finally here. A look at the best team attacks and defenses as conference play looms for much of the country.
Attack
1. California (3 goals per game)
The Pac-12 is so salty this year because it’s deeper than expected, and Cal’s surprisingly robust attack is a major contributor. The Golden Bears score 0.17 more goals than any other team in the nation, which isn’t an insignificant total borne out over the first month of the season. Cal has yet to be shut out this season, and the most impressive result was a four-goal deluge against a ranked Delaware team on Sept. 19. If Connor Hallisey (six goals, five assists) and Stefano Bonomo (five goals, two assists) continue their partnership effectively, Cal could pull a Pac-12 upset or two.
