Toreros Top UC Irvine 1-0
SAN DIEGO, Calif. - The University of San Diego women's soccer team (2-1-0) edged out UC Irvine 1-0 Friday night at Torero Stadium. In a match that was back and forth all evening, the Toreros finally grabbed the lead in the 65th minute on Emily Dillon's second goal of the season.
The Anteaters (1-2-0) managed six shots to the Toreros' four, but goalkeeper Michelle Craft and the Toreros' back line stood strong to earn their first shutout of the 2013 season. Craft moves to 2-1 on the year, while Irvine's keeper, Jennifer Randazzo, falls to 0-2-0.
The Toreros lone goal came in the 65th minute after Mariah Butera's cross from the right wing deflected off an Anteater defender right to Dillon's feet in the box. Dillon's one touch slipped past the keeper into the upper right corner of the net to give the Toreros the lead.
Five of the Anteaters six shots came in the second half, but they could only manage to get one on target.
The Toreros return to action on Sunday when they host the Cal State Northridge Matadors for a 12:30 p.m. match at Torero Stadium.
