Tornado fall to Emmanuel 3-1
BRISTOL, Tenn. – The Tornado women's soccer team was able to net a second-half equalizer, but two goals in the final third of the game from Emmanuel College sealed the Lions' 3-1 win.
King's lone score came off the foot of Rachel. The goal came off a penalty kick in the 53rd minute after Lindsay Curtis was muscled down inside the area and evened the score at 1-1.
The Tornado had many offensive chances but were unable to find the back of the net. King was able to connect on many through balls and create breakaway opportunities, but Emmanuel starting goalkeeper Breanna Grizzle repeatedly came off her line and was able to force off-target attempts.
Emmanuel's first goal came in an unorthodox fashion. In the 38th minute, Lions' midfielder Emma Tamblyn aimed a corner kick into the box, but no players for either team were able to head it. The ball bounced and slipped past everyone into the right side of the net.
Tamblyn also closed the scoring in the afternoon, striking a blistering one-timer in the 75th minute from 25 yards out that found a small window above a leaping Nicole Dagher to push the Lions' advantage to 3-1. The Tamblyn goals were sandwiched around a goal from leading scorer Liene Vaciete.
The Tornado were outshot 19-12 but recorded eight more saves than Emmanuel. Goalkeepers Morgan Lawson and Nicole Dagher each played for one half and combined for nine saves on the afternoon.
King will travel to face Milligan at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Tornado then return home for the Conference Carolinas opener against Pfeiffer at 2:00 p.m.
