Trine and Hope Play to a Scoreless Draw
HOLLAND, Mich. - It was a battle between two of the top teams in the central region as the Trine University men’s soccer team took on Hope College. The result wasn’t exactly what either team had hoped for as the game ended in a 0-0 draw after two overtimes. The Thunder are now 6-0-2 on the season and 2-0-1 in the conference.
Hope came into the match ranked fifth in the central region by the NSCAA while the Thunder were seventh.
The Trine defense came up huge as they did not allow a goal on 32 shot attempts by the Flying Dutchmen. Senior goalkeeper Nick Thon (South Haven, Mich./South Haven) earned the shutout while making nine saves on the night, including at least one in every period. Trine tallied five shots in each of the first two periods, but were not allowed a scoring opportunity in either of the overtime periods.
Junior Andre Hilson (Bremen, Ind./Bremen) led the Thunder with two shots taken. Eight other Trine players each tallied a single shot attempt.
Trine will host the defending conference champion and regionally ranked Calvin College on September 27 at 4:00 p.m.
