Trine Extend Unbeaten Streak to Seven
ANGOLA, Ind. - The Trine University men’s soccer team extended their unbeaten streak to seven games with a 2-0 win over conference opponent Alma College. The Thunder are now 6-0-1 on the season and 2-0 in the MIAA.
Both teams had several opportunities in the opening half including a breakaway by senior Foster Webb (Auburn, Ind./Dekalb) who just pushed the wide left.
The Thunder finally put a mark on the board when Webb headed the ball home off a rebound almost 12 minutes into the second half. After junior Curtis Holcom (Converse, Ind./Oak Hill) hit the post on his own header, Webb was there in front of the net to knock the ball home for his third of the year.
The Trine defense came up huge in the second half not allowing the Scots to get a single shot on net.
Trine put the game away when Holcom found senior Sean Sullivan (Brighton, Mich./Brighton) for the goal. After the Alma goalie tried to make a sliding stop on Holcom, he then found Sullivan wide open on the right wing as he put the ball away in the wide open net. The goal was Sullivan’s second of the season.
Senior Nick Thon (South Haven, Mich./South Haven) made three saves in goal on the afternoon earning his fifth shutout of the season.
Trine will look to continue their winning ways as they travel to Hope College for a 7:00 p.m. match on September 24.
