Tulsa Captures 3-1 Win Over Little Rock
The Tulsa women’s soccer team captured a 3-1 win over Little Rock on Friday night at the Hurricane Soccer and Track Stadium. TU moved to 2-0 on the season while LR fell to 1-2-1 overall.
“I was proud of the way the girls played, and most proud of the fact that the things we worked on this week in practice we implemented today, which shows our maturity,” Head Coach Kyle Cussen said. “I am also proud of the fact that we created a lot of good chances and scored three goals from three different players again. I like our diversity and depth. Little Rock is a good team that went to the NCAA Tournament last year and they know how to win games. I am very pleased with the result, how we played and the way we got the result.”
The win marked Head Coach Kyle Cussen and Associate Head Coach Jim Rhein’s 100thwin at Tulsa.
Addyson Guthrie put Tulsa on the board at the 16:39 mark as she picked up a free ball and scored up the middle from 20 yards out. Just under seven minutes later, Valiree Morris made it a two-goal cushion for the Hurricane as she drilled in a forward pass from Reagan Whitlow from 25 yards out from the left side.
Just over 10 minutes into the second frame, Julia Edholm got one back for the Trojans off a pass from Morgan Smocovich for their lone goal of the contest.
Aubrey Lechlider added the final score for TU in the 79thminute as she headed in the ball from 10 yards out off a combination from Ashlan Hustava and Neha Igwe.
Whitlow and Anna Williams had a team-best four shots, while Morris added three attempts, and Kayla Fernandez and Alyssa Kaiser each had two attempts. Mica MacKay logged all 90 minutes in goal.
Tulsa had a 20-3 lead in shots, including a 7-1 advantage in shots on goal, and a 4-2 lead in corner kicks.
