Five Tulsa players scored a goal to lead the Tulsa women’s soccer team to a 6-0 win over Chicago State on Sunday afternoon at the Hurricane Soccer and Track Stadium.  TU moved to 6-4 on the season, while CSU fell to 0-10 overall.

 

“We were consistent for the first time in a long time, and it is a good way to end this string of five games in 10 days,” Head Coach Kyle Cussen said.  “I was very proud of the output, how we played and how we created those goals.  We strung together passes and possession for four of the goals in the run of play, while two of them were off free kicks.  We were able to play a lot of people today, keep fresh legs out there and get a shutout. It was a long 10 days of games, but we learned a lot about ourselves and prepared ourselves for conference play.”

 

Kayla Fernandez put Tulsa on the board at the 36:18 mark as she drilled in a free kick taken from just outside the left side of the box and into the upper right-hand corner. Addyson Guthrie added a score for the Golden Hurricane as she flicked in a cross from Neha Igwe in the 42^ndminute to put TU up 2-0 heading into the break.

 

Jordan Martinez scored her first collegiate goal in the 53^rdminute as she shot from 20 yards out from the right side of the box into the upper left-hand corner of the goal, and then Reagan Whitlow drilled in a free kick from 25 yards out that bounced off the bottom of the cross bar and into the goal in the 55^thminute.

 

Mia Darden scored the final two goals in the contest, including a goal in the 61^stminute from 18 yards out, and then in the 82^ndminute from six yards out off a pass from Alyssa Kaiser.

 

Gabriella Borboa, Anna Williams, Guthrie and Darden all had a team-best four shots, while Whitlow and Liliana Fernandez each had three attempts.  Mica MacKay played the first 45 minute in goal, while Jazmiera Ditter played the final 45 minutes between the posts and picked up one save.

 

Tulsa had a 34-3 lead in shots, including a 15-1 advantage in shots on goal, and a 5-0 lead in corner kicks.

 

Tulsa will return to action and open up American Athletic Conference play against USF on Thursday, September 26 beginning at 6:00 pm in Tampa, Fla.
