Tulsa Drops 2-1 Overtime Decision to Drake
The Tulsa men’s soccer team dropped a 2-1 overtime decision to Drake on Saturday afternoon at the Hurricane Soccer and Track Stadium. TU fell to 3-3-1 on the season, while DU moved to 4-3 overall.
Nic Jaimes dribbled up the field, through defenders and shot from eight yards out to give the Bulldogs a 1-0 lead at the 18:24 mark. Less than four minutes later Juan Sanchez evened the score as he drilled in a penalty kick in the 23rd minute and teams went into the break tied, 1-1.
Neither team scored in the second frame, but with 3:55 ticked off the clock in the first overtime period Drake was awarded a penalty kick. Cole Poppen took the shot and earned the game-winning goal for the Bulldogs.
Tulsa had an 18-9 lead in shots, including an 8-5 advantage in shots on goal, and a 16-4 lead in corner kicks.
Chase Bromstedt had a team-best four shots, while Harris Partain added three attempts, and Yoeri Sijbers, Gilles Kuhler, Alejandro Chavez and Munashe Raranje all had two shots. Cooper Clark logged all 93:55 in goal and picked up two saves.
Tulsa will return to action on Friday, September 21 at SMU. Game time is set for 7:00 pm in Dallas.
