Tulsa Drops 5-0 Decision to James Madison
The Tulsa women’s soccer team dropped a 5-0 decision to James Madison on Sunday afternoon at the Hurricane Soccer and Track Stadium. TU fell to 1-4-1 on the season, while JMU moved to 4-2 overall.
“We knew coming in that JMU is a good team and we were banged up already this season,” Head Coach Kyle Cussen said. “We have had to move people around and we go from banged up to losing two starters in this game. We are going to have to keep battling and see what we can do going forward.”
Lizzy Lazzaro struck first for the Dukes as she drilled in a penalty kick at the 13:12 mark after an incidental handball in the box. Carmen Thomas added a score for JMU as she shot from 25-yards out in the lower right corner off a pass from Haley Crawford in the 21st minute to give James Madison a 2-0 lead at the break.
Steffi Page earned an early second-half goal, followed by Crawford in the 56th minute and then Phoebe Dinga in the 90th minute.
JMU had a 22-3 lead in shots, including a 10-1 advantage in shots on goal, and an 8-3 lead in corner kicks.
McKenzi McAdams, Ashlyn Heckman and Annabeth Fouts all had one attempt for the Golden Hurricane, while Courtney McKeon picked up five saves in 90 minutes of play between the posts.
Tulsa will return to action on Friday, September 8 against Ole Miss in the Memphis Invitational in Memphis, Tenn.
