Tulsa Earns 1-0 Victory Over Houston
Tulsa women’s soccer player Rachel Thun scored the game-winner in a 1-0 victory over Houston on Sunday afternoon at the Hurricane Soccer and Track Stadium. TU moved to 11-1-1 on the season and 2-0-1 in American Athletic Conference play, while UH fell to 4-8 overall and 0-4 in the league.
“We didn’t feel like we played well today,” Head Coach Kyle Cussen said. “We were a little inconsistent, but we battled toady. Houston came in with a lot of energy and made it tough on us, but we are happy to have the three points. Danielle’s ball in was a great ball and Rachel made a backside run and got in a great position to get the goal.”
Thun’s goal came in the 48th minute as she one-timed a cross from Danielle Hoover and scored from five yards out.
The Golden Hurricane had a 13-9 lead in shots, but the Cougars had a 6-4 advantage in shots on goal, and both teams had five corner kicks.
Kajal Parmar and Tana Dake both had a team-best three shots for TU, while Hoover and Thun each added two attempts. Rebecca Defer logged all 90 minutes in goal, picked up five saves and earned her fifth shutout on the season.
Tulsa will return to action on Thursday, October 8 against USF. Game time is set for 6:00 pm Central in Tampa, Fla.
