Tulsa Earns 1-0 Win Over Cincinnati
Freshman Chase Bromstedt scored on a penalty kick to give the Tulsa men’s soccer team a 1-0 win over Cincinnati on Saturday night at the Hurricane Soccer and Track Stadium. TU moved to 5-8-1 on the season and 2-4 in American Athletic Conference play, while the Bearcats fell to 7-8-1 overall and 0-6 in the league.
“I thought the movement was good and we created some good chances in the first half,” Head Coach Tom McIntosh said. “What changed the game in the second half was bringing in Thomas Wells and Jacob Gooden. They brought in more energy up front and we created more chances. When Cincinnati went a man down in the 48th minute they were content in sitting back so we had to change the energy level and have more movement up top. It opened up a little more and Chase hit his PK. I was pleased to see some of our young guys taking steps to move forward.”
Bromstedt scored his first goal of the season on the PK at the 73:44 mark. He led the TU attack with six shots, four of which were on goal, while playing all 90 minutes. Rollie Rocha added four attempts, while Miguel Velasquez had three shots. Cooper Clark logged all 90 minutes in goal and had no saves.
Tulsa had a 22-8 lead in shots, including a 10-0 advantage in shots on goal, and a 3-2 edge in corner kicks.
Prior to the game, the Golden Hurricane honored it’s four seniors – Kay Duit, Cameron Drackett, Rocha and Zack Stavrou.
“It is always good to win on senior night, so I’m happy for those four guys to get a win in their final home game,” McIntosh said.
Tulsa will conclude the season on Saturday, November 4 at Memphis. Game time is set for 1:00 pm in Memphis, Tenn.
