Tulsa Earns 2-0 Win Over the Cincinnati
The Tulsa women’s soccer team earned a 2-0 win over Cincinnati on Thursday night at the Hurricane Soccer and Track Stadium. TU moved to 6-6-1 on the season and 2-1 in the American Athletic Conference, while the Bearcats fell to 8-3-1 overall and 1-1 in the league.
“I was very proud of both Val and Alyssa because they played very well on top of scoring their first goals,” Head Coach Kyle Cussen said. “They’ve both been playing well, but have been a little unlucky at times this year. I was very proud of the effort and heart of the team, especially in the second half when they dug deep and did everything they had to do to get this win tonight.”
Valiree Morris scored her first collegiate goal with just 8:52 ticked off the clock as she knocked in a ball put in the box by Darienne Chapman and misplayed by the Bearcat goalkeeper. Alyssa Kaiser also earned her first career goal in the 32nd minute as she drilled in a pass from Chapman from 20 yards out.
Cincinnati had a 12-7 lead in shots, including a 6-3 advantage in shots on goal, and an 8-3 lead in corner kicks.
Kaiser had a team-best two shots, while Morris added two attempts. Rebecca Defer logged all 90 minutes in goal, had six saves and earned her first shutout on the year.
Tulsa will return to action on Sunday, October 9 against East Carolina. Game time is set for 1:00 pm at the Hurricane Stadium.
