Juan Sanchez scored two goals, including the game-winner in the 93^rd minute, to give Tulsa a 3-2 overtime win over UMKC on Monday night at Durwood Stadium in Kansas City, Mo.  TU moved to 4-3-1 on the season, while UMKC fell to 2-4-1 overall.

 

“I thought we moved the ball pretty well tonight and we were much better going forward than we were on Saturday,” Head Coach Tom McIntosh said.  “It was a tough game after coming off the loss at Creighton and then going down two goals early, but the guys were never rattled and they just kept playing.  We got our first goal right after their second goal to go in at half down 2-1 and we were able to come out in the second half an put a lot more pressure on them.  We created more chances and near chances, and then Juan scored a great goal to tie it up.  The last goal was a great piece of work so I am really happy for the guys, they deserved this win.”

 

Hamish Smylie put the Kangaroos on the board with just 11:39 ticked off the clock as he drilled in a 30-yard goal and Pandelis Popgeorgiev gave UMKC a two-goal cushion in the 40^th minute.  Just 53-seconds later Cole Poppen got one back for the Golden Hurricane off a cross from Cameron Drackett and TU went into the break down, 2-1.

 

Sanchez evened the score at the 81:44 mark off another Drackett cross to force overtime, and then scored the game-winner at 92:01 as he headed in a cross from Lesley Nchanji.

 

Sanchez had a team-best four shots, three of which were on goal, while Michael Mitrik added three attempts, and Geoffrey Dee and Aymar Sigue each had two shots.  Jake McGuire logged all 92:01 in goal and had three saves.

 

Tulsa had a 16-9 lead in shots, including a 7-5 advantage in shots on goal, and an 8-2 lead in corner kicks.

 

Tulsa will return to action on Saturday, Sept. 26 against SMU to open American Athletic Conference play.  The game is set to begin at 7:00 pm at the Hurricane Soccer and Track Stadium.
