Tulsa Falls to #17 USF, 3-2
The Tulsa men’s soccer team dropped a 3-2 decision to 17th-ranked USF on Saturday night at the Hurricane Soccer and Track Stadium. TU fell to 3-5-1 on the season and 1-2 in American Athletic Conference play, while the Bulls moved to 6-3-1 overall and 3-0 in the league.
“We didn’t start well in the first 15 minutes of both halves,” Head Coach Tom McIntosh said. “Then we controlled the final 30 minutes of each half. We gave up three goals in five minutes and made an up-hill battle for ourselves, but we created a lot of good chances tonight, which is something we haven’t done enough of. Our guys kept playing and created a number of chances, but we were a little unfortunate to not get a third goal.”
Juan Sanchez scored his first goal of the season as he punched in a penalty kick at the 21:44 mark to give Tulsa a 1-0 lead. TU maintained the advantage until Ricardo Gomez scored on a free kick taken from 19 yards out at the 50:34 mark and then again in the 54th minute on a penalty kick. Stephen Rudderham added the third goal for the Bulls in 5:14 off the clock as he shot from 15 yards out off a pass from Josue Monge.
Kay Duit was able to get one back for the Golden Hurricane at the 73:12 mark off a rebound attempt taken by Miguel Velasquez, but TU was unable to score the equalizer.
Tulsa had a 19-14 lead in shots, including an 8-6 advantage in shots on goal, and a 5-4 edge in corner kicks.
Sanchez had a team-best four shots, while Velasquez and Duit added three attempts apiece. Marcel Da Silva logged all 90 minutes between the posts and picked up three saves.
Tulsa will return to action on Tuesday, October 10 against Denver. Game time is set for 7:00 pm at the Hurricane Stadium.
