The University of Tulsa Head Men’s Soccer Coach Tom McIntosh announced today the appointment of former Golden Hurricane standout Terry Boss to the coaching staff, as nine-year assistant coach Colin Clarke announces his retirement.

“Obviously Colin has been the most influential person in terms of my coaching career to date,” McIntosh said.  “He is one of the brightest soccer minds that I’ve had the opportunity to share ideas with and learn from, and he has been a huge part of our success.  I thank him for all he has meant to this program, and he will undoubtedly leave a lasting impression on our program and me personally.”

Clarke, a native of Glasgow, Scotland, served as an assistant coach at Tulsa for nine years and was selected as the 2009 National Assistant Coach of the Year by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America.  He concludes his coaching career with more than 45 years experience at both the collegiate and high school level.

 

During his nine seasons at Tulsa, Clarke played an integral role in helping the Golden Hurricane make six NCAA Tournament appearances, record five top-25 finishes and helped five players (Kyle Brown, Chris Clements, Ashley McInnes, Austin Neil and Ryan Pore) achieve All-America status.  His sideline experience helped Tulsa post a nine-year mark of 104-56-22.

 

“We are excited to hire former player, Terry Boss, as a full-time coach,” McIntosh said.  “Terry succeeded both academically and in his soccer career while at Tulsa, and has played professionally since 2004.  He is going to help us address our goalkeeper training needs on a daily basis, as well as film work, recruiting and daily planning.  Terry is a great addition to the staff with a work rate that is second to none, and he will be a great example for our players.”

 

Boss comes to Tulsa after playing the last three years with Major League Soccer’s Seattle Sounders (2009-12).  Prior to that, he was with the MLS’s New York Red Bulls (2008-09), as well as the United Soccer League’s Charlotte Eagles (2005, 2008) and Puerto Rico Islanders (2006-07).  He was also a member of the Puerto Rico National Team (2009-12).

 

During his tenure with the Sounders, he started in eight of nine games played, logging 765 minutes in goal.  He picked up 28 saves and three shutouts, and posted a 6-2-1 record.  Before his MLS career, Boss earned USL-2 Goalkeeper of the Year honors while helping the Charlotte Eagles reach the USL-2 Championship match in 2008.  During that season, Boss had a league-leading 11 wins and nine shutouts, and was ranked second with a 0.691 goals-against average.

 

At Tulsa, Boss (2000-04) started in 20 of 23 games, logged 1,920 minutes in goal, picked up 96 saves and six shutouts, and earned a career 1.17 goals-against average.  He earned his bachelor’s degree in finance in 2004 from TU.

 

Boss has a USSF B License and USSF Goalkeeping License.
