Tulsa Posts 4-0 Win Over Incarnate Word
The Tulsa women’s soccer team set a new school record for consecutive shutouts with six-straight with a 4-0 win over Incarnate Word on Saturday night at the Hurricane Soccer and Track Stadium. TU moved to 8-0 on the season, while UIW fell to 2-6 overall.
“I thought we played well tonight,” Head Coach Kyle Cussen said. “The biggest thing about this weekend was the quick turnaround with back-to-back games and I think our depth definitely helped us tonight. It took us a little bit to get started, but we created some great chances we just didn’t finish in the first half. We talked at halftime, made a few adjustments, changed our formation and were able to come out and capitalize on more chances in the second half. We had team synergy tonight, especially in the second half. It was also great to set the consecutive shutouts record since we pride ourselves on getting shutouts.”
Tana Dake put Tulsa on the board at the 17:15 mark as she picked up a pass from Rachel Thun, went around her defender and scored from 20 yards out up the middle. Dake’s goal was the only one in the first frame as TU took a 1-0 advantage into the break.
Claire Maris kicked in a goal from 12 yards out at the 49:44 mark and 46-seconds later Caitlin Jancuska scored from 20 yards out off a combination from Sierra Krenik and Thun. Roman Edwards tallied the last score in the 63rd minute from 10 yards out with Kajal Parmar picking up the assist.
Thun had a team-best seven shots, Madison Smith added four attempts, and Dake, Jancuska, Annie Sohmer, Danielle Hoover and Alexa Sidorakis each had two shots. Rebecca Defer logged all 90 minutes between the posts, had no saves and earned her fourth shutout on the season.
Tulsa will return to action on Friday, Sept. 18 against Oklahoma. Game time is set for 7:00 pm in Norman, Okla.
